INEOS Styrenics’s Marl plant is located in the northern part of the Ruhr region, Germany, 70 kilometers (45 miles) from Düsseldorf and 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Dortmund, Germany.

The PS and EPS production facilities are fully integrated into the Marl Chemical Park, the third largest chemicals site in Germany with an area of 6.5 qm (1,605-acres), 1,250 kilometers (776.7 miles) of pipelines and 55 kilometers (34.17 miles) of streets.

Other globally acting companies operating in the park include Air Liquide, Degussa/RAG, Lanxess, Polymer Latex and Sasol. BP acquired the Marl facility in 1998 from Chemische Werke Hüls. The site became part of INEOS Styrenics on October 1, 2005 and has approximately 125 employees, while the total Marl Chemical Park employs 10,300 people.

EPS and PS Production

INEOS Styrenics’s Marl plant is capable of producing approximately 180 kilo tonnes (396.8 million pounds) of PS and 85 kilo tonnes(187.3 million pounds) of EPS annually. Styrene monomer for the production of PS and EPS is supplied from INEOS ’s styrene production facilities located at Marl.

End Use Products

Standard PS resins from Marl are used in Food Packaging such as yogurt cups, television exterior boxes and CD packages, while EPS is used for insulation in the construction industry as well as in packaging. Performance products manufactured in Marl include the antistatic polystyrene Empera 153A.

As the Styrenics market is highly competitive, the Marl plant has accelerated its strategy of continuous efficiency improvement in order to strengthen further the competitiveness of this site while maintaining the good track record in safety and environment.

The Marl site is ISO 9001 and 14001 (English, German , new English, new German) certified and received an EMAS certificate (English, German).
